Hetch Hetchy Reservoir, a source of drinking water for San Francisco, is also home to spectacular scenery and is the starting point for many less-used back-country trails. Towering cliffs and high waterfalls are easily seen from the walkway on top of O'Shaughnessy Dam. Hetch Hetchy Reservoir is located 22 miles from Yosemite Riverside Inn via Cherry Lake Road, Mather Road and Hetch Hetchy Road. Although the road to Hetch Hetchy is open year-round, it may close periodically due to snow in winter and spring. Vehicles over 25 feet are prohibited on the Hetch Hetchy Road due to its narrowness.
