Weather Conditions at Yosemite |
Usually a mild climate but be prepared for exceptions
Normally, the weather in Yosemite Valley is rather mild. Summer
daytime temperatures are often in the high 80's but sometimes
reach 100, especially on the Valley floor. Nights are typically
cool, even during the day at higher elevations. Plan to dress
in layers for maximum comfort. Winter temperatures range from
the high 40s to the mid-20s. Occasionally, days will be in
the mid-60s and perhaps a few that go as low as 5 to 10 degrees
above zero. A record low temperature of -6 was set in 1924.
Dry summers and wetter winters Precipitate ion varies greatly,
although
summers tend to be dry, except for an occasional afternoon
thunderstorm during late summer in the higher elevations.
Rain often starts in October
with the mild fall season. The first snowfall usually comes
to Yosemite Valley around mid-November and the last snow may
fall during late March or
early April. Generally, the snow
accumulation is less than two feet, but on rare occasions,
it has been up to five feet. |
